In Crisis

In crisis means that you need help now!

It may be that you have been diagnosed with a mental health problem or you have been trying to live with growing feelings of despair and feel like you are not getting anywhere and you can’t take anymore.

If you exhibit any of the following, you may be in crisis and need help quickly:

  • Suicidal behaviour or intention
  • Panic attacks/extreme anxiety
  • Loss of sense of reality, hallucinations or hearing voices
  • Other behaviours that seem out of control or irrational and that is likely to endanger yourself or others

What is a crisis service?

A crisis service is any service that is available at short notice to help you resolve a mental health crisis or to support you while it is happening.

Many of the crisis services you can contact are run by charities, the NHS or local social services that are designed to respond to these types of in crisis care.

These services can range from telephone help lines to Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment (CRHT) teams and acute inpatient wards.

If you've hurt yourself or are thinking about hurting yourself or another person, it is important that you seek help quickly.

In an emergency:

You can ask to stay on the line while you wait for help to arrive or go to your nearest Accident and Emergency department (A&E).

Not an emergency but you require help quickly:

If you can look after your injury yourself, make sure you keep it clean and use clean dressings
